Longji Rice Terraces in July
The largest part of the Longji Rice Terraces, Jinkeng Rice Terraces is home to Red Yao people for hundreds of years. On the lunar 6th of June usually in July, villagers at Dazhai Village in the area always celebrate the Clothes Drying Festival. That day, female villagers take out their clothes to dry in the sun or hang them under the roof.
In addition, a local collective wedding will be held that day. Brides in Red Yao costumes always wear a silver plate in front of the chest. With ducks, wine and other gifts, married ladies always return to parents’ homes to visit them that day. Villagers will make rice dumplings to celebrate the festival as well. Female villagers keep long hair. On the lunar 6th of June at Dazhai Village, you will see how they comb their long hair by a small stream. You could also see how female villagers make their costume with a traditional wooden machine.
If interested, you could take part in the catching fish competition to enrich your tour. At night, if you stay overnight in Longji, you could enjoy a bonfire party as well as amazing fireworks. During the festival, there would be many visitors at Dazhai Village.

Exploring the Longji Rice Terraces
Longji Zhuang Village in Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces is the quietest in Longji. As its tourist facilities are underdeveloped, you will be able to experience more local authentic custom and traditions there. On fine days, sky, clouds, green plants, and wooden house make for stunning views. You might not be disturbed by cars or other noises when you walk around the village. Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces is home to Ping’an Zhuang Village. As the rice seedlings are greener and taller, you will find views are more gorgeous at the Viewpoint of Nine Dragons and Five Tigers than those in Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces. If you’d like to, you could hike to the Viewpoint of Seven Stars with the Moon from the viewpoint. It takes around 40 minutes hike. There are fewer visitors at the viewpoint compared to the Viewpoint of Nine Dragons and Five Tigers.

Longji Zhuang Village
Jinkeng Rice Terraces features several hiking trails to explore. If you are a keen photographer, you could get to the Viewpoint of Golden Buddha Peak to appreciate the sunset via a cable car or with your feet. You also could admire the sunrise at the Viewpoint of Music from Paradise on the very morning of fine days.
Most of the villages at the Longji Rice Terraces offer local restaurants with local food, including cooked bamboo chicken and rice and local organic vegetables.
