How Many Days Do You Need in Chongqing?
Most travellers spend 2–4 days in Chongqing, allowing enough time to experience both the city’s iconic attractions and its spectacular natural scenery. A two-day visit is perfect for exploring Chongqing’s highlights, including Hongya Cave, Ciqikou Ancient Town, Liziba Monorail, Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street and try the famous Chongqing Hotpot. With an additional 1 -2 day, many visitors choose to visit either the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wulong Karst, home to the spectacular Three Natural Bridges and Longshuixia Gorge, or the UNESCO-listed Dazu Rock Carvings, renowned for their remarkable collection of ancient Buddhist sculptures. Travellers with four or more days can extend their journey with a 5D4N Yangtze River Cruise to Yichang or combine Chongqing with nearby destinations such as Chengdu, Jiuzhaigou or Zhangjiajie via high speed trains, or visit Guilin, Guizhou for a more comprehensive southwest China itinerary.
Overall, three days is a strong minimum for Chongqing itself, while six to eight days works well when combining the city with Wulong and a Yangtze River Cruise.
