Southern Hot Spring Park – historical hot springs on the outskirts of Chongqing

Located around 18 kilometers south of Chongqing Center, Southern Hot Spring Park was originally built in 1927. But the Southern Hot Spring was originally built in the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644). The park is a combination of natural beauty and old cultural relics.

The Southern Hot Spring Park has 7-hectares waters and 16-hectares land. It is composed of Big Spring Scenic Area, Huayuan Scenic Area, Fairy Cave Scenic Area and Bamboo and Stone Scenic Area.
As a garden building complex, Nantang Hot Spring Pool offers 110 bathrooms to visitors. There is a big outdoor swimming pool, an indoor swimming pool and a swimming pool for children. With an average temperature of around 40 centigrade degrees, the spring is rich in minerals.
The park is also home to 344 species of plants. Usually, in spring and autumn, there are flowers exhibitions in the park. Jianwen Peak is 504 meters above the sea level. It was called Jianyu Hill. Nowadays, you could find Jianwen Hall on the peak.
Kong Garden was the former residence of Kong Xiangxi (1880 – 1967) in Chongqing. The building is a perfect fusion of the Chinese and Western Style.
Developed into 3-levels cave, Jinku Cave offers stairs to the visitors. Jinku means the warehouse for storing gold. The name comes from it that when Nanjing National Government moved the capital to Chongqing, they also transported a great deal of gold to the cave.
There is a hot spring club in the park. If you are interested, you could enjoy bating in the hot spring for an additional cost of 98 CNY per person.
The best time to visit Southern Hot Spring Park is in the morning.
The best months to visit are from May to October.
There are several buses to the park. Therefore, there are several options.
- Rent a vehicle to the park from Chongqing City. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 169, 199, 302, 309, and Bus 327 to the Stop of Nanquan (南泉站). Then walk to the park.
- Opening hours: 09:00 – 22:30 (Monday – Wednesday and Friday – Sunday); 09:00 – 19:30 (Thursday)
- As at 23rd October 2020, the entrance pricing to the hot spring club including the entrance to the park is 98 CNY per person; children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall not included) are free of charge.
