What is the Muslim Quarter?
Muslim Quarter is a block for Muslim in Xi’an for hundreds of years. It consists of several streets including Beiguangji Street, Beiyuanmen Street, Xiyangshi Street, Dapiyuan Road, Huajue Lane and Sajinqiao Street. The Muslim Quarter is situated behind the Bell and Drum Towers. It is suggested that you explore the towers and enjoy the local food at Muslim Quarter.

What to expect at Muslim Quarter

Muslim Quarter is home to more than 60,000 Hui People. At the quarter, there are 10 mosques of different ages and sizes, among which the most famous is Grand Mosque. Muslim Quarter is a combination of the traditional Chinese architectures and Muslim architectures. You could not only find the Hui costumes, handicrafts but also could enjoy the Hui snacks and authentic local food.
The 800-meters-long Sajinqiao Street is a favorite snack street for locals. It offers a variety of delicious snacks, such as fried dough twists with oil tea, rice and jujube cake, fried egg and rose pickles with spicy sauce in baked bun, dumplings in sour soup, etc. The list of the snacks is endless. In brief, it is a paradise for foodies. The pricing is reasonable as well. It offers old trees and 3 old mosques to explore. Among the 3 mosques, the Old Mosque (清真古寺) was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). You will find the old gate house originally built in the Ming Dynasty and the old locust tree which was planted in the year when the mosque was built. Originally built in the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), Beiguangji Street is also a paradise for foodies. The mosque on the street was originally built between the end Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912). You will find the exquisite wooden, stone and brick carving at the mosque. The 400-meters-long Xiyangshi Street offers an Islamic cultural section of more than 200 meters, which showcases Islamic architecture, clothing, signs and symbols presenting Islamic culture, religious knowledge and religious practices. |

How to get to the Muslim Quarter
Several buses pass by the quarter. Therefore, there are several options.
- Rent a vehicle to the quarter. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 4, 7, 8, 15, 32, 43, 45, 201, 205, 206, 215, 218, 221, 251, 300, 604, 611, 612, K630, and Bus K706 to the Stop of Bell Tower (钟楼). Then, walk to the quarter.
