What is Huangyao Ancient Town?
Situated around 200 kilometers from Guilin City and 130 kilometers from Yangshuo, Huangyao Ancient Town with hills around was originally built in the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279). It has the typical karst landform just like that in Guilin. Old trees, clean streams and caves can be found in the town.

What to expect at Huangyao Ancient TownHuangyao Ancient Town features one main street connected with 8 alleys all of which are built in black slabstones. They make for a maze. If you explore the town by yourself, you may get lost. The street and alleys are lined with old and well-preserved two-layer houses in the Ming (1368 - 1644) and Qing (1644 - 1912) Dynasties. Some of the houses are transformed into hotels, tea houses, restaurants, cafes, etc. You can find local specialties there as well. Windows and doors of the houses are carved with exquisite patterns.
There are some 20 old temples and 10 pavilions built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties in the town as well. When you pass by one temple or pavilion, you’ll find the two pillars in front of the gate are always pasted with the poetic couplet. Situated by the Yao River, the old stage built in 1524 is well-preserved. It has a shape of the Chinese character of “凸”. An old banyan tree witnesses the changes of the town. In summer, many of the local elders usually sit under the tree to kill the time. Some old people also sell dried local herbs under the tree. At night, all of the traditional Chinese lanterns along the alleys are lit, putting more attractions to the town. In addition, the town is much quieter at that time. You can get a different experience from that in the daytime. |

How to get to Huangyao Ancient Town
Unfortunately, there is no direct bus or high-speed train to the town from Yangshuo or Guilin. The only option is to rent a vehicle.

- As at 4th October 2020, the entrance pricing to the town is 100 CNY per person; children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall not included) are free of charge; children between 1.2m tall (1.2m tall included) and 1.4m tall (1.4m tall not included) are charged 50 CNY per person; the elder between 60 years old (60 years old included) and 65 years old (65 years old not included) are charged 50 CNY per person; the elder above 65 years old (65 years old included) are free of charge.
