What is Huangluo Yao Village?
Huangluoyao Village is acclaimed the World’s First Long Hair Village. It is home to Huangluoyao People for hundreds of years in Longji Rice Terraces. Outside of Longji Rice Terraces, Baimian Yao Village, a settlement for Red Yao people is set in the Longsheng Hot Springs Scenic Area. It is located around 1.5 hours ride from Huangluoyao Village.

What to expect at the Huangluo Yao Village on a tour?
Huangluoyao Village is well-known for long hair of women villagers. As they just have hair cut for two times during their life, the average length of the hair is longer than 1.4 meters. The hair is usually cut at the age of 18, which stands for that they are grown-ups. When hair drops, they’ll tie the dropped one with growing one on the head together. An old going says in the village that the more hair on the head, the longer they’ll live and the richer they’ll become.

Unmarried women have the different hair style from those who are married and have children. They use water of washing rice to clean their hair, which keeps hair black, smooth and silky. Nowadays, tourists can get a little acquainted with how they comb the hair through the long hair show in the village theater. In addition, they’ll invite the audience to join the Red Yao Wedding. If interested, you can also purchase some interesting handicrafts there.

 

Baimiao Yao Village is situated by the road, 6 kilometers from Longsheng Hot Springs. The forests on the mountain make for a good background for the village. Compared to Huangluoyao Village, the village is less popular and you can enjoy a quiet environment there. A tablet in the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912) beside the village gate tells the rules of the village. Villagers also present exiting traditional sports to tourists. An old tradition passes from generation to generation in the village. Married men live in the house of their wives from the wedding date to death. In autumn, the village features golden chrysanthemum show.

Best time to visit the Huangluo Yao Village on a tour?

If you’d like to visit the two villages in one day, it is suggested that you explore the Huangluoyao Village in the morning followed by the Baimian Yao Village which is located around 80 minutes ride.

 

The best months to visit are from April to October.

  • As Huangluoyao Village is located in Longji Rice Terraces Scenic Area, you’d need to pay for the entrance pricing to the area.
  • As at 5th October 2020, the entrance pricing to the terraces (excluding the shuttle bus in the area) is 80 CNY per person; children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall not included) are free of charge; children between 1.2m tall (1.2m tall included) and 1.4m tall (1.4m tall not included) are charged 40 CNY per person.
  • As at 5th October 2020, the entrance ticket for the one-way shuttle bus in the Longji Rice Terraces Scenic Area is 20 CNY per person; the entrance ticket for the round-trip shuttle bus in the Longji Rice Terraces Scenic Area is 40 CNY per person.
  • As at 5th October 2020, the entrance pricing to long hair show is 80 CNY per person; children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall not included) are free of charge.

  • As at 5th October 2020, the entrance pricing to Baimian Yao Village is 30 CNY per person; children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall not included) are free of charge; children between 1.2m tall (1.2m tall included) and 1.4m tall (1.4m tall not included) are charged 15 CNY per person.
