What is the Chengdu Panda Research Base?
Easily accessible, Chengdu Panda Research Base at the Futou Mountain (斧头山) is situated about 10 kilometers north of Chengdu. It covers an area of 100 hectares with the aim to protect and breed the giant panda, the red panda and other endemic endangered wildlife in China.

How to get to the Chengdu Panda Research Base
There are no direct buses from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport to the Base, or Chengdu North Train Station to the base. Therefore, there are only a few options.
- Rent a vehicle to the base from the airport or the train station. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 303 to the Stop of the Stadium of Province(省体育馆站) from the airport, then transfer to the Bus 99 for the Stop of the Zoo(动物园站). And then take Bus 87 or 198 to the base. The distance is about 37 kilometers. Duration: 2 hours and 20 minutes.
- Take Bus 9 to the Stop of the Zoo from Chengdu North Train Station, then transfer to Bus 87 or 198 to the base. The distance is about 11 kilometers. Duration: 1 hour.

- Opening hours: 07:30 – 18:00 around the year
- As at 7th October 2020, entrance pricing to the base is 58 CNY per adult; the elder between 60 years old(60 years old included) and 70 years old(70 years old not included) are charged 29 CNY per person. - If your body conditions are not for hiking, you could take the shuttle bus at the base.
- Opening hours for the shuttle: 07:30 – 18:00 (April – October); 08:00 – 17:30 (November – March).
- Route of the shuttle: Entrance – Swan Lake(天鹅湖) – Giant Panda Charming Theater(大熊猫魅力剧场) – Red Panda Playground(小熊猫活动场) – Giant Panda Sun Nursery Room(大熊猫太阳产房) –Villa 2 of the Giant Panda(大熊猫2号别墅) – Giant Panda Moon Nursery Room(大熊猫月亮产房) –Villa 1 of the Giant Panda(大熊猫1号别墅) – Giant Panda Moon Nursery Room(大熊猫月亮产房) – Villa 2 of the Giant Panda(大熊猫2号别墅) –– Giant Panda Sun Nursery Room(大熊猫太阳产房) – Red Panda Playground(小熊猫活动场) – Giant Panda Charming Theater(大熊猫魅力剧场) – No. 14 Villa of the Giant Panda(大熊猫14号别墅) – Entrance.
- Admission fee for the round-trip shuttle is 10 CNY per person above 1.2m (1.2m included).
- The base offers English interpretation service. The pricing for the service is 100 CNY one time for a group between 1 and 10 persons. If the number of the member of the group is more then 10 persons, every member will be charged 10 CNY.
- Do not feed animals. Your food is not suitable for them and will make them sick. Do not pick bamboo in the Panda base to feed pandas either. The giant pandas are fed on a rationed diet from their keepers.
- Do not throw anything into the dens to help us maintain the giant panda’s eating habits and avoid any risk of disease that could spread to other pandas. Anything thrown into the dens and eaten by the animals is likely to cause severe consequences.
