1. Wulingyuan Scenic AreaWulingyuan Scenic Area enjoys a good reputation among foreign and Chinese domestic tourists. It consists of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Suoxiyu Nature Reserve and Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve.
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park offers tens of spots with amazing views to explore, including Yuanjiajie, Golden Whip Stream, Yangjiajie, Wulong Village and the like. Golden Whip Stream is a paradise for hiking lovers. You will spend at least 2 hours exploring the natural beauty along the stream. There are so many spots to discover in the park. There are a few roads to Suoxiyu Nature Reserve from Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Suoxiyu Nature Reserve has several walking trails to explore. You could walk along the trail from Ten-mile Gallery through Wolongling to Xihai. Views along the Ten-mile Gallery Valley are stunning. If you are lucky enough, you may encounter wild monkeys at the end of the valley. If you don’t enjoy hiking, the small train running along the valley is another option. Xihai as well as Shuirao Simen has great landscapes to admire.
Generally speaking, temperature in Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve is always lower than that in other scenic areas in Zhangjiajie Region, especially after the rain. Thus, it is suggested to take a long shirt with you when you visit the area. After the rain, natural scenery in the area is very breathtaking, which is great photography materials. You will take a cable car to the top of the mountain through tens of low peaks. Laowuchang, Kongzhong Tianyuan, Yubi Peak, Dianjiang Viewpoint and Helong Park are don’t-miss spots there. |
2. Tianmen MountainTianmen Mountain features the longest cableway to experience. In addition, you could get a one-of-a-kind experience when you take a shuttle bus on the mountain road with 99 turns to the top of the mountain from the bottom of the mountain.
When you arrive at the top, you could challenge yourself to climb the 999-steps to the Tianmen Cave. After visiting the cave closely, you could enjoy the mountain –through elevator down to the top of the mountain. |
3. Zhangjiajie Grand CanyonIn the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, you could not only appreciate the natural wonders, but also can experience the longest and tallest glass bridge in the world. Trees grow on the rocks, which is shocking. Walk at the bottom of the canyon and you will feel refreshed.
When you step on the glass bridge, your adrenaline may rise in a flash. On the way to the bridge, you will pass by the steep Thin Strip of Sky cliff. It takes around 2 hours at least to explore the entire canyon. |
4. Baofeng LakeSurrounded by mountains, Baofeng Lake features two islets in the lake. The ticket for the area includes a cruise on the lake. You will enjoy Tujia’s style singing when you enjoy cruising for nearly 50 minutes.

5. Huanglong CaveJust like the Reed Flute Cave in Guilin, Huanglong Cave (also known as the Yellow Dragon Cave) is the most famous cave in Zhangjiajie. It offers 3 stone waterfalls to appreciate. You will enjoy the views on a boat for 800 meters of the Xiagnshui River – one of the two underground rivers in the cave.
The largest hall (there are 13 halls in the cave) features crystal-clear stone pillars, stone pearls, stone corals, stone flowers, and stone curtains and much more. |
6. Furong Old TownIf you are planning to visit one Tujia town during your Zhangjiajie Tour and you are interested in Tujia culture, it is suggested that you explore Furong Old Town. In the town, you could visit the local folk museum where you will find tens of traditional Tujia tools.
One must-visit spot in the town is the old street with a length of 5 kilometers. The Waterfall in the town is also a highlight. At night, the town features stunning views to enjoy as well. Though, the town may be crowded with Chinese domestic tourists. |
