What to expect at Xishuangbanna Virgin Forest Park

In spring in Xishuangbanna Primitive Forest Park, you will experience the cultural show on peacocks, the cultural show on the rainforest, the cultural show on the folk costumes and the cultural show of the folk customs in Xishuangbanna Primitive Forest Park.
The park features a peacock park with more than 400 green peacocks. Before the flying of peacocks, you will appreciate a singing show between Dai boys and girls. Boys stand on a big bamboo raft while girls with a beautiful oiled paper umbrella open above the head stand on another bamboo raft. Then, boys and girls will dance together on one raft or by the lake. The show is followed by the flying of peacocks. They fly down to the bank of the lake from the white pagoda on the top of the opposite mountain. The flying starts at 08:40, 10:00, 12:00, 13:20, 14:40, 15:30 and 17:00. Every flying lasts for about 10 minutes. If it is rainy, the flying will be canceled.
In the park, you could also experience water-splashing carnival. If lucky enough, you will admire the ascending the throne ceremony of the leader of Dai Kingdom. The Aini Village is also a highlight in the park. Wandering the park, you will refresh yourself in singing of birds and fragrance of flowers. If interested, you could rent a suit of Dai costumes to take pictures. If you walk for long and feel a little tired, restaurants offering local food and drinks in the park are a good choice to you.

Best time to visit Xishuangbanna Virgin Forest Park

If you would like to enjoy the flying of peacocks, the best time to visit is in the morning.
The best months to visit are from November to March.


How to get to Xishuangbanna Virgin Forest Park

There is a direct bus with the route of between Huahuiyuan (花卉园) and Forest Park (森林公园) in Jinghong City. You could take the bus at stop opposite Jingyong Hotel (景咏饭店) in Jinghong City or you could just rent a vehicle to the park from Jinghong.

  • Opening hours for show in Aini Village: 08:30 – 17:00
  • Opening hours for folk shows: 11:20 – 11:50
  • Water-splashing carnival starts at 13:40, 14:30, 15:20 and 16:10. Every carnival lasts for some 30 minutes.
  • As at 20th October 2020, the entrance pricing to the park is 65 CNY per person; children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall not included) and the elder above 70 years old (70 years old included) are free of charge.
  • The entrance pricing to the one-way shuttle bus is 40 CNY per person; the entrance pricing to the round-trip shuttle bus is 50 CNY per person.
