Xiguan Mosque - one of the oldest mosques in Lanzhou

Originally built by Muslim merchants in Lanzhou in the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), the Xiguan Mosque is located in Xiguan Street. Historical history tells that the mosque was rebuilt in 1684 and was expanded between 1723 and 1735. Imposing and solemn, the mosque features a distinct Arabic Islamic style.

What to expect at the Xiguan Mosque
The existing Xiguan Mosque was built in 1986. The four-storey building is composed of the worship hall, offices, the preaching hall, the storage room, bathing room, and a small worship hall for women. The upper three floors are the worship hall, which can accommodates more than 3,000 people.
The façade features a decorative pattern of green and blue. The entire building is exquisitely designed and unique in style, which is unique in the construction of mosques in China. The main hall on the ground floor is round. The main hall is surrounded by 17-meters-tall 20 arches. The circular shape is used to show the unity of the Muslim people of all ethnic groups.
There are shops and hotels around the mosque now. On Jumah (Friday), many Muslims, including merchants and residents often do worship at the mosque. After visiting the mosque, you can enjoy the delicious local food around.

The best time to visit Xiguan Mosque is in the morning. If you would like to experience the atmosphere of worshiping, it is suggested to visit on Jumah (Friday).

How to get to the Xiguan Mosque
There are several buses passing by the Xiguan Mosque. Therefore, there are several options.
- Rent a vehicle to the mosque. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 302 to the Stop of Majiapo (马家坡站).
- Take Bus 1, 4, 6, 15, 18, 31, 33, 44, 50, 56 and Bus 58 to the Stop of Xiguanshizi (西关十字站).
