Xi'an Top AttractionsThe Xi'an Old City Wall is regarded as the existing largest and most complete of its kind in China. Located in the center of Xi’an City, it features four old city gates. The thickness is larger than the height. The sunset from the city wall is amazing. You could enjoy cycling along the wall or just take a shuttle bus there.
The Bell and Drum Towers stand close to the Old City Wall. They were originally built in the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). The Drum Tower is the existing largest tower across China. The drum show is regularly on in the tower. Several drums are there on display as well. The Bell Tower is some 200 meters from the Drum Tower. It features Dougong, colorful caisson ceilings and exquisite wood carvings as well.

After visiting the Old City Wall and the two towers, you could try local food and Muslim food at the Muslim Quarter which is within 10 minutes walk from the Bell Tower. The various types of food are not only a feast for your stomach but also a visual feast.

Unlike other mosques in China, the Great Mosque of Xi’an features a classic Chinese style in the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907). Though, you could find a colorful caisson ceiling made of Arabic characters in the main hall. The large screen wall with fine brick carvings is one of the highlights there as well.
If you are interested in the Tang history and culture but don’t want to travel to several spots for it, the Tang Paradise is a combination of the rich culture in the Tang Dynasty. Opened to the public in April, 2005, it offers the Tang buildings with female culture, poetry culture, and the culture of imperial examination and much more during the period of time.

Huaqing Palace is famous for the love story between Yang Yuhuan (719 - 756) and Emperor Tang Minghuang (685 - 762). It is backed by the Li Mountain. The palace was the summer resort to the emperor. If you are familiar with the history during the period of time, you could get much richer experience after exploring the ruins of the bathing pond for the royal family.
The Museum of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qin Shihuang is also one of the must-visit spots in Xi’an. When you see the battle formation made of the terracotta warriors, horses and chariots, you may be shocked at the wisdom and strategies of the ancient Chinese who lived around 2,500 years ago.

At the Shaanxi History Museum, you could see a variety of cultural relics presenting the colorful history in Xi’an from the prehistoric age to the Qing Dynasty. You could admire the painted pottery during the prehistoric age, the bronze wares in the Zhou Dynasty (1056 BC – 256 BC), bronze swords, terracotta warriors, building materials, tri-coloured glazed pottery of the Tang Dynasty and other items.
The Forest of Stone Steles Museum has the oldest stone steles from the Han Dynasty (202 BC – 8 AD and 25 AD – 220 AD) to the Qing Dynasty. It offers all schools of the classic Chinese calligraphy to admire. In addition, you could find the pictures on the stone steles from the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279) to the Qing Dynasty. The Confucian Temple is also part of the museum.
