With an area of 1,699.39 square kilometers, Xiamen is well-known for Gulangyu Island. It is an important central city on the southeast coast in China. It faces KinMen in the east. It works as the cross-strait trade center.

What to expect in Xiamen
If you are arts lovers, especially the piano, it is strongly recommended that you visit Gulangyu. On the island, you can explore the piano museum in Shu Zhuang Garden, a private estate in the past. The museum features more than 40 old pianos, including the world’s oldest four-corner piano and the oldest and largest upright piano. In addition, you’ll find a organ museum on the island as well. Sunlight Rock overlooks the entire island.

Set up by Chen Jiageng (1874 – 1961), Overseas Chinese Museum is a great choice to know the brief history of overseas Chinese around the world, and their contributions to the world. The museum also presents the old coins, bronze wares, carvings, etc to appreciate.

 

Xiamen University also established by Mr. Chen, enjoys a great reputation across China. Many persons who played significant roles from the 1920s to the founding of the People’s Republic of China studied in the campus. Buildings there are also one of the highlights.

 

If you want to buy some local specialties, Zhongshang Road Pedestrian Street can meet your needs. You can try local snacks as well as enjoy the distinctive arcade structures along the street.

 

Huihe Stone Cultural Park offers stunning stone carvings. You’ll see various materials of carvings, such as jade, black stones, and marbles.

 

Many local people in Xiamen are Buddhist disciples. South Putuo Temple is very popular there. With an age of older than 1,000 years old, the temple features old buildings to explore.

The best months to visit Xiamen are from March to November.

 

How to get to Xiamen

There are several airplanes to Xiamen from the main cities around China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Nanjing, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Guilin, Xiamen, Kunming, Harbin, Xi’an, etc. There are many trains to Xiamen from Chengdu, Chongqing, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Guiyang, Nanjing, etc. Please get to Xiamen by air or by train based on your schedule.

  • It is very hot from July to August in Xiamen.
  • It is recommended that you take sunglasses and sunscreen cream with you as the sun is usually strong in Xiamen.
