Originally built by oversea Chinese in 1927, Xiamen Zhongshan Park covers an area of 1.6 hectares. Locals like to visit the park when they are free. If you’d like to explore the local life, the park is a good option.

What to expect at the Xiamen Zhongshan Park
The Xiamen Zhongshan Park was built based on the mountain. It is surrounded by walls. Four gate towers in four directions features different styles from one another. The south gate is a structure of three granite archways. A copper statue of Sun Yat-sen stands on the South Gate Square. East and west gates are also archway structures. At the east gate is a monument to Mr. Sun as well. The upper part of the north gate is in the style of Western European Arc de Triomphe while the lower part is in the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644) gate tower style. The north gate is a combination of Western and Chinese styles.

In the north of the park flows the Kuixing River. Kuuixing Mountain is situated in the southwest. The mountain features a huge rock with a shape similar to the four stars in the bowl of the Big Dipper. At the top stands a hexagonal pavilion which faces the rock. On the mountain, you’ll find old Chinese carvings in the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912).
In the east of the south part of the park, a pavilion, a tea house and a small restaurant offer visitors places to take a break. At Yiqu Garden in the west of the park are a courtyard, a pavilion, a small pond, and a recreation room popular among locals, especially the elder. The middle part of the park is the place where you’ll see flowers exhibition hall, small ponds, and pavilions. In spring, summer and autumn, the hall is decorated with colorful flowers. A zoo, a roller rink, and other entertainment facilities for young children are located in the north part of the park.
In addition, twelve bridges in different styles span over the waters in the park. Locals love to play Chinese chess, and Tai Chi, enjoy square dancing or just walk around the park.

The best time to visit the park is in the morning if you’re interested to know some about the local life.
The best months to visit are from March to November.
How to get to the Xiamen Zhongshan Park
Several buses pass by the park. Thus, there are several options.
- Rent a vehicle to the park. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 3, 4, 8, 19, 21, 86, 87, 96, 123, 139, 309, 659, 857 or Bus B3 to the Stop of Zhongshan Park (中山公园站).
