Opened to the public on March 16, 2007, Xiamen Science and Technology Museum has an area of 21,000 square meters. The area of 12,000 square meters serves as the permanent exhibition area. Themed on “Human·Science·Harmony”, it offers five exhibition halls of “Ocean·Cradle”, “Explore·Discovery”, “Create·Civilization”, “Harmony·Develop” and “Children·Future”.

What to expect at the Xiamen Science and Technology Museum

The Xiamen Science and Technology Museum is aimed to let the public understand the true meaning of science. Through exciting interactive activities, you’ll know more and deeper about science.

The Prelude Hall is home to a water clock. It is 7.4 meters tall.

Hall of “Ocean·Cradle” mainly introduces the knowledge on the ocean closely related to the relationship between Mainland China and Taiwan via words, pictures, and interactive games.

Hall of “Explore·Discovery”, the largest hall features more than 80 hands-on exhibits, including Magnetoelectric Stage, Photon House of Relativity Theory, Mirror Labyrinth, and Wonder House. The stage play is employed at the Magnetoelectric Stage to present Principles of Electromagnetic Science through sounds, light, electricity, interpretation and multimedia. Wonder House will challenge your visual impact and balanced capacity.

Various robots are the highlights of “Create·Civilization” Hall. Robots there will show you how they play with a Rubik’s Cube. More surprisingly, you’ll see them presenting plays. At the hall, you can know some of the achievements made by the local high-tech enterprises.

“Harmony·Develop” Hall depicts where we are from and how we grow up from a cell. You can also know the appearance of yourself in the future, such as 10, 20, 40 years later. In addition, exhibits there can help you to know the body conditions via testing blood oxygen, blood pressure, heartbeat and water content.

“Children·Future” Hall is for the children between 3 and 12 years old. You can shot different musical instruments via water guns, which can create corresponding sounds. Children can also make good use of their imagination to build up distinctive structures via building blocks there.

The best time to visit the museum is in the early morning.

The best months to visit are from March to November.

How to get to the Xiamen Science and Technology Museum

Several buses pass by the museum. Thus, there are several options.

  • Rent a vehicle to the museum. This is the quickest and most direct option.
  • Take Bus 24, 25, 101, 116, 126, 780, 845, 846, 859, or Bus 954 to the Stop of Wenhua Yishu Zhongxin (文化艺术中心站). Then walk to the museum.
