What is Wangjianglou Park?
Located on the south bank of Jinjiang River, Wangjianglou Park is famous for its cultural relics such as the ancient buildings of Wangjiang Tower and Memorial Hall for Xue Tao, a famous female poet in the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907). With more than 200 types of bamboo, the park is acclaimed as “Bamboo Park”.

What to expect at Wangjianglou Park

Completely built in wood, the four-storeyed Chongli Tower is 27.9 meters tall. It stand by Jinjiang River. It was named after the location. The ridges of each floor are decorated with exquisite poultry clay sculptures and figures. You will view the patterns of the phoenix, peony and dragon on the ceiling of the ground floor and the top floor. Originally built in 1814 and rebuilt in 1898, the two-storeyed Zhuojin House features 5 rooms. It looks like a traditional Chinese sheep. Visitors can enjoy the old furniture in the Qing Dynasty in it.
In addition, you also can explore stone inscriptions in Qingwan House, paintings on Xue Tao’s life and poets by her in the Memorial Hall for Xue Tao, the art of paper-making and paper-note-making in the Tang Dynasty in Huanjian Pavilion. Apart from the culture, you can appreciate a variety of bamboo in the park, including purple bamboo, if interested.
Best time to visit Wangjianglou Park
If you are planning to visit Wangjiangluo Park for photography purposes, the best time to visit is in the morning during its opening hours.
The best months to visit is it is from March to May and from September to November as these months are not so cold or so hot.
How to get to Wangjianglou Park
There are several buses passing by the park. Therefore, there are several options.
- Rent a vehicle to the park. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 3, 18, 31, 68, and Bus 82 to the Stop of Sanguantang (三官堂站). Then, walk to the park.
- Take Bus 19 and Bus 35 to the park directly.
Additional Wangjianglou Park Travel Advice
- Opening hours: the protection area for the cultural relics: 08:00 – 18:00; garden area: 06:00 – 21:00. It is closed on the Eve of Chinese New Year.
- As at 7th October 2020, entrance pricing for the protection area for the cultural relics is 20 CNY per person; 10 CNY per person is for the children under 6 years old (6 years old included) or 1.3 meter (1.3 meter included); Children under 6 years old (6 years old not included) or 1.3 meter (1.3 meter not included) are free of charge; The elder above 70 years old (70 years old included) are free of charge.
- As at 7th October 2020, garden area is free of charge.
- If you would like to climb the Wanjianglou Tower, it is charged 15 CNY per person as at 20th November 2019.
