What to expect at Tsinghua University

On April 29, 1911, Tsinghua School was founded in Tsinghua Park. In 1949, it was named Tsinghua University. At the campus, you not only can explore the old buildings and greens but also can experience the strong learning atmosphere, its culture and long history.

 

It offers old buildings. Wen Pavilion is located on a hill on the west side of the auditorium. It is an ancient hexagonal pavilion. A bell has been hanged in the pavilion since the foundation of the school. The predecessor of the Observatory was Meteorological Observatory of the National Tsinghua University built in the summer of 1931.

The Science Museum is located to the southwest of the Grand Auditorium. It is one of the four major buildings in the early Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912)(the auditorium, the library, the science museum, and the gymnasium). The Science Museum was originally built in April 1917 and was completed in September 1919.

 

“Shuimu Qinghua” is the most fascinating scene in Tsinghua Park. It is located on the north side of the I-shaped hall. Located on Tsinghua Road and considered to be a symbol of Tsinghua University, the second school gate is one of the most iconic buildings in Tsinghua Park. Gu Yue Hall is one of the ancient courtyards in Tsinghua Park. It was built in the Daoguang Period (1821 – 1850) of the Qing Dynasty and is separated from the West Lane of the I-shaped Hall. There are numerous old buildings in Tsinghua Park for you to explore.

 

Tsinghua university offers undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and continuing education. At present, Tsinghua University has a total of 20 colleges and 58 departments. It has become a comprehensive and research university with 11 disciplines including science, engineering, literature, art, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, education and medicine. Every year, nearly 1,000 international exchange students come to the school for course study and collaborative research.

 

Best time to visit Tsinghua University

The best time to visit Tsinghua University is in the morning during its opening hours. Tsinghua University is only open to the public on weekends and during holidays.

 

How to get to Tsinghua University

There are many buses passing by Tsinghua University. Therefore, there are many options.

  • Rent a vehicle to the university. This is the quickest and most direct option.
  • Take Bus 331, 365, 375, 429, 498, 508, 562, 579, 601, 614, 681, 697, 699, 717, 982, Te 19 (特19路), Te 4 (特4路), Te 6 (特6路), Yuntong 105 (运通105路) and Yuntong 126 (运通126路) to the Stop of West Gate of Tsinghua University (清华大学西门站). The individual visitors are required to enter the university via West Gate.
  • Take Bus 307, 355, 438, 549, 594, and Yuntong 110 (运通110路) to the Stop of Tsinghua Park (清华园站)

Additional Tsinghua University Travel Advice

  • Opening hours for the weekends and holidays: 08:30 – 11:30 and 13:30 – 16:30.
  • Admission fee: free
  • During the summer and winter holidays, Mondays are not open to the public. In case of school breaks, classes, important events or extreme weather, it is not open to the public either.
  • It is required that the individual visitors book the admission to the university via the WeChat of “Visit Tsinghua University” (参观清华) on WeChat 7 days prior to the visit date with personal passports details.
  • It is required that the groups book the admission on the website of http://www.y-ars.com 14 days prior to the visit date with personal passports details.
  • The individual visitors are required to enter the university via West Gate.
  • The groups are required to enter the university via the Third East Gate.
  • The vehicles are not allowed to enter the campus.
  • Visitors are required to present the passports at the entrance.
  • In order to ensure the normal operation of teaching and research activities, the campus is divided into open areas and non-open areas. Non-open areas are not open to visitors.
