Tianping Mountain - famous mountain well-known for its Maple Trees

Tianping Mountain is 201 meters above sea level. It is very popular among photographers, especially between end November and early December for red maple leaves. The mountain is acclaimed one of the top four scenic spots offering the most amazing red maple leaves across China.

What to expect at Tianping MountainLocated around 15 kilometers from the Old Town of Suzhou, Tianping Mountain is home to more than 300 old maple trees which are more than 400 years old and 87 species of trees. As the maple trees have different ages, colors of the leaves at one period of time between end November and early December differ from one another. During the period of time, you’ll be amazed at the gorgeous views of the maple forests. From the foot to the top of the mountain, colors of the maple leaves change from green to scarlet. It is a feast for eyes. Red maple trees together with reflections in the calm lake are great photography materials.
At the mountainside, you may find a spring called Cloud Spring. Even though it is in dry season, the spring also has water out. In summer, Shijing Pond is dotted with water lily in blossom to appreciate. Four poems carved on the stele in the Yubei Pavilion depict the facts that Emperor Qianlong (1711 - 1799) explored the mountain. There are several well-known natural caves on the mountain. They are called Lotus Cave, Cloud Cave - also named Big Stone House which can accommodate 10 persons, Small Stone House Cave and Cave of God Mountain. You’ll find Fan Zhongyan Memorial Hall, Fan Zhongyan Ancestral Hall, and steles carved with works by Fan Zhongyan (989 - 1052), an outstanding writer and politician in the Northern Song Dynasty (960 - 1127) hidden in the woods. |

If you’d like to visit Tianping Mountain for photography purposes, the best time to visit is at sunrise or sunset.

How to get to Tianping Mountain
A few buses pass by Tianping mountain. Thus, there are a few options.
- Rent a vehicle to the mountain. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 4, 315, 662 or Y4 to the Stop of Tianpingshan (天平山站). Then walk to the mountain.

- As at 15th October 2020, the entrance pricing to the mountain is 30 CNY per person; children between 1.2m tall (1.2m tall included) and 1.4m tall (1.4m tall not included) are charged 15 CNY per person; the elder between 60 years old (60 years old included) and 70 years old (70 years old not included) are charged 15 CNY per person; the elder above 70 years old (70 years old included) and children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall not included) are free of charge.
