What are the Things To Do In Xi’an in Winter ?

It is very cold and dry in Xi’an in winter. The lowest temperature is minus 10 degrees. It is suggested that you wear enough warm clothes during the stay in Xi’an. Xi’an is more than 3,000 years old. It offers tens of old historical sites and a variety of things to do. As the Spring Festival always comes into the winter, it is not suggested that you pay a visit to Xi’an during the festival.

Xi’an City Wall

Set in the heart of Xi’an City, the Old City Wall covers an area of more than 11 square kilometers. The existing wall was originally built in 1370. It is 13.7 kilometers long. The main gates are Changle Gate (East Gate), Yongning Gate (South Gate), Anding Gate (West Gate) and Anyuan Gate (North Gate). All of them are the original gates. Nowadays, there are 18 gates in the wall. You could enjoy hiking or cycling on the wall. It offers attractive night views as well.

Museum of the Terracotta Warriors

The Museum of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qin Shihuang features around 6,000 terracotta warriors with the similar size to the human beings in the Pit 1, war chariots, cavalrymen, and archers in the Pit 2, and the command system of the army in the Pit 3. The scale is stunning there.

Huaqing Hot Spring

The Huaqing Hot Spring was built in the early Tang Dynasty (618 – 907). As a summer resort, emperors in the Tang Dynasty always visit there in summer. You will find the ruins of many small pools for bathing and other old buildings there. Lishan Mountain is located in the area. You also could explore it.

Tang Paradise

The Tang Paradise was built north of the Tang Paradise in the Tang Dynasty. There are 14 cultural zones in the garden. It features the buildings, music, folk customs and dancing in the Tang style. More than 10 shows in the Tang style in different zones are put on every day to let the visitors know more about the culture and history in the Tang Dynasty.

Forest of Stone Steles Museum

The Forest of Stone Steles Museum is composed of a forest of stone steles and other cultural relics. There are more than 11,000 pieces of collections there. It has 7 rooms, 8 corridors and 8 pavilions to explore. You could find the old stone carvings in the Tang Dynasty. In addition, you could visit the Confucian Temple in the museum if interested.

Xi’an Bell Tower

As the existing largest and best preserved of its kind in China, the Bell Tower in Xi’an stands in the center of Xi’an City. One of the highlights in the tower – the Jingyun Bell was cast in 711. 3 stone steles introduce the history of the tower. Wooden carvings on the doors and windows reflect the high carving skills in the Ming (1368 – 1644) and Qing (1644 – 1912) Dynasties.

Xi’an Drum Tower

The Drum Tower is situated around 200 meters from the Bell Tower. Originally built in 1380, the tower is decorated with dark green glazed tiles on the eaves. It features gilded color paintings, as well as exquisite carvings.

Banpo Site Museum

If you are interested in archaeology, the Banpo Site Museum in Xi’an offers you a good chance to experience the excitement in person. The museum is opened to the public in 1958. There, you could get a little acquainted with the burial culture, social status, utensil and more in the Neolithic Age.
