In August, the Li River is also attractive with the karst hills in various appearances. As August is in the summer holiday in China, it is always the busiest season. However, you could take the Li River Cruise and appreciate its beauty at the second half of August as there are fewer visitors in Guilin during the period of time.

Riyue Shuangta Cultural Park

In early August, the fields in the Yulong River Valley are decorated with the golden rice. Along the road winding the valley, you could find some of the villagers harvesting the rice through the original means. Some children enjoy themselves in the river. Hills in the valley are green and the water is cool. You could explore the area on foot or by bike.

Zhang Yimou being the chief director of the Impression 3rd Sister Liu Show which features the 12 karst hills in the Li River and local culture. Some of the folk songs are from the Zhuang ethnic minority, cormorant fishing on a bamboo rafting, local bull grazing, and much more. The actors are from the villages in the Yangshuo countryside while the stage is on the 2-kilometers-long Li River.

Yulong River Valley

Yao Mountain is the tallest mountain in the city of Guilin. It is getting cooler and cooler in the second half of August. Some leaves of the trees on the mountain turn light yellow. Wild chrysanthemum presents the most beauty in August as well. Various species of birds enjoy singing. A chairlift will take you to the top of the mountain.

The Reed Flute Cave is great to be explored all over the year. The old stone inscriptions on the wall reflect that it has been a popular scenic spot since hundreds of years ago. 9. East West Alley

Opposite the Zhengyang Walking Street, East West Alley is becoming more and more popular among locals and tourists with its buildings in the Ming (1368 – 1644) and Qing (1644 – 1912) Dynasties. It is a combination of food (local food, Sichuan food, Guizhou food and even Western food), Chinese hotels, boutiques and drinks. The alley is great for photographing as well.

Zhengyang Walking Street

West Street in Yangshuo is also good for being travelling at any time around the year.

​It features a variety of hotels (Chinese, Western and Japanese), local specialty shops, local food, Western food, bars, and local unique handicrafts (embroidered balls, woodcut bamboo rafting with a fisherman and a cormorant on and woodcut 3rd Sister Liu and so on).

​The street is located close to the Li River. If you stay overnight in one of the hotels, you may be able to admire the amazing views along the river.

West Street

In August, there is little rain in Guilin Region. Therefore, the water in the Li River is clear at most of time. Xianggong Hill offers a good view to appreciate the Li River. On the top of the hill, you could enjoy the amazing views of the karst hill around and the Li River winding through the hills. If you are keen in photographing, it is suggested that you take pictures of the sunrise from the top of the hill.

Cuiping Hill is situated in the Yangshuo Countryside with the fields around. In August, most of the fields are decorated with golden rice. However, the karst hills in the distance are still green. Green hills and golden rice create a gorgeous view. If you explore the hill in the late afternoon on sunny days, the stunning sunset with the golden rice and the green hills will shock your eyes and even your soul.

Cuiping Hill

In August, the Longji Rice Terraces are still green as the rice is always planted in the field in the early May. All the fields are decorated with green rice with numerous villages hidden among the green scenery.

​The terraces are dotted with tens of ethnic minorities villages. The villages feature old bamboo buildings with hanging feet. You could appreciate the sunrise and the sunset at the viewpoints in the rice terraces as well.​
