What is the Temple of the Eight Immortals?
Located in the Beihuo Lane, Chanyuefang, Xi’an, Eight Immortals Temple is the most complete Taoist temple in Xi’an. Covering an area of more than 73,000 square meters, the existing temple mainly features Ming and Qing styles with strict layout.

What to expect at the Temple of the Eight ImmortalsEight Immortals Temple offers old towering trees, rare plants, quiet environment plus unique buildings. It is divided into three parts from the mountain gate to the rear court hall. There are 5 halls in the first part with a bell tower on the left and a drum tower on the right.
There are the front hall and the rear hall where the clay statues of the eight immortals are worshipped in the second part. The third part is the main hall. There are Taibai Hall, Lvzu Hall, Yaowang Hall, Caishen Hall, and Guest House next to the mail hall. Visitors can explore the stone steles alongside these halls. If interested, visitors can also admire the Jiuhuangshenghui Festival on the 9th of September in the Chinese calendar. In the early morning that day, visitors will hear the drums first followed by other religious activities. With musical instruments used in a Taoist mass, masters in the ecclesiastical robe, they chant Taoist scripture, praying for the national security and the people. |
Best time to visit the Temple of the Eight Immortals
If you are planning to visit Eight Immortals Temple for photography purposes, the best time to visit is 1st and 15th of every month in the Chinese lunar calendar as there is temple fair on the days. If possible, you can visit the temple on the 14th of April in the Chinese lunar calender as this day is the birth date of Lvzu and the solemn ceremony for Lvzu is always held that day every year.

How to get to the Temple of the Eight Immortals
Eight Immortals Temple is situated in downtown Xi’an. Therefore, there are some options.
- Rent a vehicle to Eight Immortals Temple. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 709 to the Stop of Baxian’an (八仙庵站).
- Take Bus 721 to the Stop of Baxian’an North Gate (八仙庵北门站).
- Take Bus 4, 10, 11, 13, 15, 38, 42, 47, 105, 213, 228, 231, 232, 233, 240, 303, 502, 511, 517, 527, 528, 605 and Bus 710 to the Stop of Anrenfang (安仁坊站). Walk southward to the temple.
- Take Bus 203, 228, 237, 240, 408, 410, 517, 604, 630, 704, and Bus 715 to the Stop of Santalu (伞塔路站). Walk westward to the temple.

- Opening hours: 07:30 - 18:00; 06:45 - 16:45 on the 1st and 15th of every month(except January) in the Chinese lunar calender; 06:00 - 17:00 on the 15th of January in the Chinese lunar calendar; 21:00 - 17:00 from Chinese New Year Eve to Chinese New Year Day.
