What is the Temple of Confucius and Guozijian Museum?
Originally built in the Yuan Dynasty (1271 – 1368), Temple of Confucius and Guozijian Museum is a complete, magnificent and magnificent ancient architectural complex. Emperors in the Yuan, Ming (1368 – 1644) and Qing (1644 – 1912) Dynasties sacrificed Confucius at Temple of Confucius.

 

​The Guozijian was the highest institution during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and it was also the place where the emperors personally lectured.

What to expect at the Temple of Confucius and Guozijian Museum

Located at No. 13 – 15, Guozijian Street, Doncheng District, Beijing, Temple of Confucius and Guozijian Museum offers the well-preserved and unique old buildings to explore.

 

You can find the rare buildings built in the Yuan Dynasty at Temple of Confucius. Stone steles stands there. The various types of inscription on the steles were created by some celebrities in ancient China, such as Yuan Chonghuan, Lin Zexu and Li Hongzhang. The names of some 50,000 Jinshi from the Yuan Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty were carved on the steles. You also can admire the traditional ritual and music dance “Dacheng Rites” (大成礼乐) in Chongsheng Temple, which shows the ancient traditional culture and art. It is performed several times a day.

When walking around Guozijian, it is suggested that you explore the Jixian Gate, Taixue Gate, the coloured glaze arch, and Piyong Hall. Yilun Hall is the place where the emperors personally lectured. If interested to know some about the imperial examinations system, you also can explore “the Imperial Examinations Exhibition for the Ancient China” and Exhibition for the Original Layout of Guozijian.

How to get to the Temple of Confucius and Guozijian Museum

There are several buses passing by the Temple of Confucius and Guozijian Museum. Therefore, there are several options.

  • Rent a vehicle to Temple of Confucius and Guozijian Museum. This is the quickest and most direct option.
  • Take Bus 118, 684, 13 and Bus 117 to the Stop of Lama Temple (雍和宫站). Then, walk to the museum.
  • Take Metro Line 2 and Line 5 to the Stop of Lama Temple (雍和宫站). Then, walk to the museum.
  • Take Bus 113, 108, 104, 803, 124, 758 and Bus 950 to the Stop of Wanjia Hutong (万家胡同站). Then, walk to the museum

Additional Temple of Confucius and Guozijian Museum Travel Advice

  • Opening hours: 08:30 – 18:00 (May 1 – October 31, the tickets are not issued from 17:00); 08:30 – 17:00 (November 1 – April 30, the tickets are not issued from 16:30 ). It is closed on Mondays.
  • As at 8th October 2020, entrance pricing is 30 CNY per person; children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall not included) are free of charge. For the latest pricing information, please contact us via email (info@wendyweitours.com)
  • It is not allowed to smoke in the museum.
