Located in the west of Humble Administrator’s Garden, Suzhou Garden Museum has white walls and black tiles, which collaborates with the garden and the nearby Lion Grove Garden. It presents the characteristics of Suzhou folk houses.

What to expect at the Suzhou Garden MuseumSuzhou Garden Museum is mainly composed of halls of prelude, history, art and culture of garden in Suzhou.
The double-faced embroidery in the Prelude Hall is one of the highlights in the museum. It demonstrates some of the amazing landscapes in Humble Administrator’s Garden. Huishan clay sculptures depict the scene when craftsmen did the construction of gardening in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912). In the hall, you’ll know some about the differences between Chinese gardening system and the European gardening system. The history hall introduces the history of the Suzhou garden from the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC - 476 BC) through the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420 - 589) to the Qing Dynasty. You’ll find the differences of gardens in Suzhou in different periods of time through related exquisite miniatures. Pictures and other exhibits in the culture hall tell the relationships between garden and scholars, philosophy, literature, folk customs, inscription, calligraphy and paintings. The museum also has gorgeous classical garden furniture, gardening tools, horizontal inscribed boards, items of celebrities to explore. The amazing carvings on doors and windows there are also worthy of appreciating. |

How to get to the Suzhou Garden Museum
Suzhou Garden Museum is located in a car-restricted area. Any car is forbidden to run there. But you can take Bus Y1, Y2, Y5, 202, 313, 923, 529, 40 or Bus 78 to the Stop of Suzhou Museum (苏州博物馆) or rent a vehicle to the entrance to the area. Then walk to the museum.

- As at 15th October 2020, tourists can visit the museum for free.
- At the same time, just up to 200 persons are permitted to visit the museum.
