What is the Reed Flute Cave?
The Reed Flute Cave is located approximately 6kms North of Guilin City and is one of Guilin's most famous attractions. The cave was discovered and developed in 1959. It is located on the southern hillside of Guangming Mountain. It is 240 deep. The length of the opened area is around 500 meters. It offers stalactites in different shapes and even tens of frescoes to explore.

What to expect at the Reed Flute Cave
Reed Flute Cave is popular among foreign tourists with its own charm. Tens of national leaders from abroad and at home spoke highly of the cave, such as Deng Xiaoping, Zhu Rongji, Hu Jintao, the late president of the U.S.A. - Richard Milhous Nixon, the former Secretary General of the United Nations - Javier Perez de Cuellar, and more.
The cave is dotted with crystal-clear stalagmites, stone pillars, stone curtains, stone flowers and much more. Under the colourful light, they are more attractive. The stalactites make more than 30 views to appreciate, such as ‘the Virgin Forest’, ‘the Crystal Palace’, ‘the Waterfall Fly from the Tall Canyon’, ‘the Mosquito Net with a Round Top’, ‘the Morning Glow on the Lion Ridge’ and the like. You could figure out the images in your mind. |
The Crystal Palace is the most spacious in the cave. The widest point is 93 meters while the tallest is 18 meters. A palace lantern is hung in the upper left, letting the palace more gorgeous.
Since 792, monks, writers and poets from all over China in ancient times have created their unique works in ink on the wall of the cave, which reflects that the Reed Flute Cave has been explored for more than 1,000 years.
Five pieces of works in the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), eleven pieces of works in the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279), one piece of works in the Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368), four pieces of works in the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644), and four pieces of works in the Republic of China (1912 - 1949) add more charm to the cave.

How to get to the Reed Flute Cave
You could take Bus 3 to the Stop of Reed Flute Cave (芦笛岩站) or just rent a vehicle to the cave parking lot. Then, walk to the cave.

- As at 12th June 2022, the entrance pricing to the cave is 90 CNY per person; children between 6 years old (6 years old included) and 18 years old (18 years old not included) are charged 45 CNY per person; children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall included) are free of charge.
