Qiongzhu Temple - temple featuring over 500 sculptures

Situated around 12 kilometers from the city of Kunming, Qiongzhu Temple is built on the Yu’an Mountain. It was renovated twice in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912). It is famous for 500 painted sculptures of arhats with different countenance. No two arhats present the same countenance. 68 sculptures stand in Daxiong Hall, 216 sculptures stand in the Tiantailai Hall, and 216 sculptures in the Fanyin Hall. In addition, you could also appreciate the murals.

What to expect at Qiongzhu Temple
Qiongzhu Temple is mainly composed of Daxiong Hall, Mountain Gate, Huayan Hall, Fanyin Hall, and Hall of Heavenly Kings. The 500 painted sculptures were accomplished through 7 years in the Qing Dynasty. In Tiantailai Hall, the Bodhisattva of Peacock King is worshiped together with 217 arhats. At Fanyin Hall, you could admire the Thousand-hand Bodhisattva and 216 arhats. Some of them hold flowers, walking sticks, or whips in hand. Some of them are smiling, laughing, or thinking about something. Some of them are talking with others. Some of them are in anger.
Located behind the Daxiong Hall, Huayan Hall is the only preserved Dougong building in the Qing Dynasty in Kunming. The poetic couplets written by Qian Nantu, a literati in the Qing Dynasty and murals created by Li Guangxiu are well-preserved at the hall. A 2-meters-tall jade statue of Sakyamuni Buddha stands in the hall as well.
You could also find old trees and various types of plants across the temple.

How to get to Qiongzhu Temple
There is no direct bus to the temple from Kunming. The only option is to rent a vehicle.
