Open to the public in 1986, Qinghai Province Museum includes 10 exhibition halls with an exhibition area of 9,146 square meters, 7 warehouses for the cultural relics with an area of 2,593 square meters. 14,932 pieces of cultural relics are well-preserved at the museum, including 2,193 pieces of precious cultural relics.
The collection of cultural relics features the painted pottery and ethnic and religious relics which were made after 1978. The collection involves the pieces on religion, folklore, politics, economy, military, production and life.

What to expect at Qinghai Province Museum
Qinghai Province Museum is composed of permanent exhibition halls on the first floor and temporary exhibition halls on the ground floor.
On the first floor, you can know some on the history and culture of Qinghai through the cultural relics from the ancient times to modern times, such as Zhasak silver seal in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912), the largest copper weapon unearthed in China – large bronze spear, Jingmei pottery of Majiayao culture in Northwest China and the like at the exhibition hall of Qinghai Historical and Cultural Relics. The pieces at the hall are on display chronologically.
Many models and sand tables at the exhibition hall of Qinghai Intangible Cultural Heritage on the first floor showcase the culture and customs of many ethnic groups in Qinghai, such as festivals, ceremonies, songs and dances and other artistic cultures. In addition, you will find many cultural relics of Tibetan Buddhism at the hall, such as Thangka and Mandala. You can explore the gold and bronze statue of Avalokitesvara given by Emperor Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) which is regarded as the most precious treasure at the museum.

How to get to the Qinghai Province Museum
There are several buses passing by the museum. Therefore, there are several options.
- Rent a vehicle to the museum. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 2 to the Stop of Hutai(虎台站). Then, walk to the museum.
- Take Bus 12, 18, 22 to the Stop of South Xinning Square (新宁广场南). Then, walk to the museum.
- Take Bus 9, 13, 25, 31, 85 and Bus 108 to the Stop of North Xinning Square (新宁广场北). Then, walk to the museum.
Additional Qinghai Province Museum Travel Advice
- Opening hours: 09:00 – 16:30 (April - October); 09:30 – 16:00 (November - March). It is closed on Mondays.
- Admission fee: free
- Please present your passport to the staff at the entrance and you will get the free ticket for the museum.
- The backpacks or handbags are not allowed to be brought into the museum. Please keep them in the locker before the visit.
- Please keep quiet at the museum.
- It is suggested that you turn off your cellphone or adjust it to the silent mode.
