Porcelain Tower of Nanjing ​- one of the famous landmarks of Nanjing

With a height of 78.2 meters, the Porcelain Tower of Nanjing was originally built in 1412. Through the construction of nearly 20 years, around 100,000 workers were employed to build it. The then 9-storey building was decorated with 146 jacklights. Unfortunately, the original one was destroyed in the war during the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (1851 – 1864). The existing one was built in 2010 by Wang Jianlin.

What to expect at the Porcelain Tower of Nanjing

The existing Porcelain Tower of Nanjing was rebuilt by Wanda Group in 2010 according to the original design. Meanwhile, the materials used reflect the modern science and technology. The ruins of the original one is well-preserved there. You can see many cultural relics excavated in the underground palace of the original one in the tower. Colorful lights are fully applied there to make for amazing views for photographing. It is worth visiting the replicas of the cultural relics found in the ruins. You’ll get a little acquainted with the history of the original tower.

The tower is fitted with a lift to take tourists to the seventh floor and you can walk to the top floor to appreciate the panoramic views of the Qinhuai District and Gate of China Nanjing. On the ground floor, you’ll see the statue of Buddha is worshiped. In addition, there are interactive halls in the tower for tourists. Art exhibitions are irregularly held there as well.

Best time to visit the Porcelain Tower of Nanjing

If you’d like to visit the tower for photography purposes, the best time to visit is at night.

The best months to visit are from April to October.

 

How to get to the Porcelain Tower of Nanjing

Several buses pass by the tower. Thus, there are several options.

  • Rent a vehicle to the tower. This is the quickest and most direct option.
  • Take Bus 2, 16, 49, 63, 202, 701, Y2, Y14 or Bus Y20 to the Stop of Dabaoensi Yizhigognyuan (Jianchusi) (大报恩寺遗址公园建初寺). Then walk to the tower.
