With an area of around 7 x hectares, Nanjing Museum offers more than 430,000 pieces (sets) of various collections, including bronze, copper, silver, gold and jade wares, ceramics, statues, etc. They span from the Paleolithic Period through the Qin Dynasty (221 - 207 BC) to the modern times.

What to expect at Nanjing MuseumNanjing Museum features History Hall, Special Exhibition Hall, Digital Hall, Art Hall, Intangible Cultural Heritage Hall and Republic of China Hall.
The History Hall tells the interesting history of Nanjing from the Paleolithic Period to the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912) through the ancient animal fossils, the old bronze wine vessels in the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046 - 771 BC) and the Warring States Period (475 - 221 BC) and other items in other different periods of time in Nanjing, such as old potteries, gold-thread clothes, colorful silk products, and other exquisite handicrafts. Jiangsu Folk and Customs Gallery in the Art Hall demonstrates the rich local customs to visitors through pictures, local tools and the like. The folk interactive show is regularly held from 14:00 to 16:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. In the Art Hall, you may be shocked at the sculptures from the Shang Dynasty (1600 - 1046 BC), to the Qing Dynasty. Some of them are parts of buildings, burial objects, imperial items, and small and exquisite cultural articles. Works by different schools of paintings there are also highlights in the hall. Republic of China Hall presents the scenes of urban life in Nanjing at that time. You’ll find a post office, train station, TCM store, and other stores in the hall. Shop assistants in the costume with the then characteristics will help you send post cards, choose books or other items you’re interested. The hall takes you back to the Republic of China. Intangible Cultural Heritage Hall offers a great chance to get acquainted with traditional Jiangsu cultures, including traditional music, dance, dramas, arts, medicine, etc. Every day local artists regularly presents live arts and crafts shows in the hall. It is also worth visiting the tea house in the traditional Chinese classical style in the hall. From 14:30 to 15:30, local opera shows are held on the state in the house, such as Suzhou Pingtan (story-telling and ballad singing in Suzhou dialect), Nanjing Baiju Opera (cross -talk and ballad-singing in NanJing dialect), and Kunqu Opera. Digital Hall employs the physical materials and multimedia to display the relationship between nature and human beings, illustrate the history of the Old Silk Road and the two Opium Wars in China. |

How to get to the Nanjing Museum
Several buses pass by the museum. Thus, there are several options.
- Rent a vehicle to the palace. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 5, 9, 34, 36, 55, 59, 201, 202 or Bus Y5 to the Stop of Zhongshan (中山站). Then walk to the museum.
Additional Nanjing Museum Travel Advice
- Opening hours: 09:00 - 12:00 (Monday, visitors are forbidden to enter the museum from 11:00); 09:00 - 17:00 (Tuesday - Sunday, visitors are forbidden to enter the museum from 16:00)
- As at 15th October 2020, tourists can visit the museum for free. Tourists are required to reserve the free entrance ticket in advance.
- A limit of 25,000 persons are permitted to visit the museum each day. Please reserve the ticket online - http://activity.wisdommuseum.cn/reservation/home.jsp. If you reserve the morning ticket, you’d need to enter the museum by 13:00. if you reserve the afternoon ticket, you’d need to enter the museum by 16:00. Otherwise, the ticket will be invalid and you have to reserve again.
- Please present your passport at the ticket office to get the ticket.
- Flashlight or tripod is forbidden to use in the museum.
- Please keep quiet in the museum.
- The museum offers the rental service for the English-Chinese audio-guide. The rental fee is 20 CNY per set.
