Nanjing Municipal Museum - comprehensive art and history museum in Chaotian Palace

Housed in the Chaotian Palace, Nanjing Municipal Museum covers an area of more than 40,000 square meters. The palace is the most complete building complex with the highest level and largest area in the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Around 100,000 pieces (sets) of collections are well-preserved in the museum.

What to expect at the Nanjing Municipal MuseumThe Nanjing Municipal Museum features the fossil skull of Nanjing Man, jade belts, celadon Zun with exquisite carvings, and other old precious silver, gold, ceramics items.
The Ceramics Exhibition of the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties introduces more than 160 pieces of diverse items. You can know some knowledge about the official kiln and folk kiln. The Highlights Exhibition presents around 20 pieces of highlight collections of the museum. The hall is set based on the typical hallway design of the region. The City History Exhibition of Nanjing illustrates the development of the city through pictures, archives, documents and multimedia. The History Exhibition of Chaotian Palace tells the history, current situation and historical stories on the palace. In addition, you can also see two steles introducing the palace’s history. The Costume Exhibition of the Song and Ming Dynasties lets you appreciate the exquisite costumes, and accessories. |

How to get to the Nanjing Municipal Museum
Several buses pass by the museum. Thus, there are several options.
- Rent a vehicle to the museum. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 4, 23, 43, 48, 82, 83, or Bus 306 to the Stop of Chaotiangong (朝天宫站). Then walk to the museum.
