What to expect at My Son Sanctuary

For hundreds of years, My Son Sanctuary has not been discovered thanks to the location. In 1885, a French man found it unintentionally. From 1937 to 1944, the Museum of the Far East in French rebuilt some of the damaged old pagodas there. Until 1946, there were some 50 buildings there which were well-preserved.

In 1969, My Son Sanctuary was damaged by American bombs. The well-known Palace A-1 and many buildings were flattened. Until 1975, only 20 buildings there were the original. In 1980, Vietnam and Poland tried to restore some ruins there and under the work of more than 10 years, some of the ruins were restored into the original appearance.

My Son Sanctuary is located on the hillside. From the bottom of the mountain to its location, you’ll see stunning views. Please just follow the built road to keep safe as some landmines on the mountain haven’t been detonated yet.

Champa Pagodas there are built in red bricks. Although they are not high, they feature a variety of styles. With the style of Hinduism, the sculptures on the pagodas are exquisite. You’ll find the sculptures of the Goddess and animals, such as elephant, etc.

The pagodas at My Son Sanctuary present the building skills, stone carving art and aesthetics. The sculptures there also reflect the worship of Champa for genitals. In addition, you can also find shells put together with the fine sculpture.

The 20-minutes-long Champa Show is regularly performed by 3 or 5 ladies at My Son Sanctuary in the morning and the afternoon. But there is just one show during the two periods respectively.
