Covering an area of 4,000 square meters, the Mr Chen Jiageng Former Residence is located in the famous home town of overseas Chinese in Fujian, Jimei. On either side of the building is Mr Chen Jiageng’s Deeds Exhibition Hall with a construction area of 800 square meters.

What to expect at the Mr Chen Jiageng Former Residence
The Mr Chen Jiageng Former Residence features the style of Southern Fujian buildings. The copper statue of Mr Chen stands in front of Guilai Hall built in 1962. Guilai means “Return Home” in English. The statue is backed by a square marble. In the middle of the hall is the stone seated statue of Mr Chen. The hall offers more than 10 wing rooms.

Furniture in the sitting room, dining room, study and bedroom on the first floor is in the original place. The room at the corner of the staircase on the left side of the floor is Mr Chen’s office when he was ill. One old ordinary wooden table on which several small medicine bottles and an small old abacus used by Mr Chen (1874 – 1961) lie and two old sofas are the main furniture in the room. You’ll find an old wooden bed with a pair of pillows in the bedroom.
At the 3-storey Mr Chen Jiageng’s Deeds Exhibition Hall, pictures, and objects such as the genealogy of Chen in Jimei presents the life of Mr Chen, a renowned patriotic overseas Chinese. Mr Chen was the founder of Xiamen University. He also set up Jimei Primary School, Jimei Secondary School, etc. He made great contributions to the Xinhai Revolution, Anti-Japanese War, China’s War of Liberation and the national education cause.
Best time to visit Mr Chen Jiageng Former Residence
You could visit it any time during the opening hours as it is not popular among tourists.
The best months to visit are from March to November.
How to get to the Mr Chen Jiageng Former Residence
Unfortunately, there is no direct bus to the residence. Therefore, the only one option is to rent a vehicle.

- Opening hours: 09:00 – 17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday. It is closed on Monday.
- As at 16th October 2020, tourists can visit it for free.
