Famous for the gorgeous Ma Pi Leng Pass and the finishing point of the Happiness Road, Meo Vac Town is nestled in a valley, surrounded by rocky mountains. It neighbors China in the east. It is home to Black Dao, Red Dao, Hmong and the Flower Lo Lo Ethnic Minorities for tens of years.
What to expect at Meo Vac Town
As Meo Vac Town is a settlement for Black Dao, Red Dao, Hmong and the Flower Lo Lo Ethnic Minorities, you can experience colorful traditions in the one town. It features the typical Vietnamese houses to visit as well.
Compared to other ethnic minority village in the town, Lo Lo Village is a little smaller. If you’d like to take photos of the people in their own costumes, it is recommended that you visit the town during their traditional festivals, such as tree dipping festival, corn picking festival and Tet Holiday (New Year) when they usually wear the costumes to dance and sing.
If you are interested to see local ethnic minorities in their own costumes, the Meo Vac Market offers you a good chance. You’ll see Red Dao, Black Dao and Hmong people at the market. The market is usually held on the morning of Sundays. At the market, you’ll find local featured handicrafts. Moreover, the locals always sew clothes with an old-fashioned sewing machine at the market. You’ll find other local specialties there as well. There are also local snacks there on sale. If interested, you could have a try.
The interesting Khau Love Market is regularly held on the lunar 27th of March each year. Local young girls and boys like to join the activities there to look for their half and try to build up a long-standing and firm love relationship with someone at the market.

Unfortunately, there are no direct buses to the town from Ha Giang. The only option is to rent a vehicle.
