Manchunman Buddhist Temple - the oldest Buddhist Temple in Xishuangbanna

Originally built in 583, Manchunman Buddhist Temple was the first Buddhist temple after the Buddhism spread into Xishuangbanna. The existing temple was rebuilt in the 1970s. It is situated in the Dai Ethnic Minority Garden home to Manjiang, Manchunman, Manzha, Manting and Manga Dai Ethnic Minority village.
What to expect at the Manchunman Buddhist Temple
The Manchunman Buddhist Temple is very popular among disciples in Thailand, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Laos. Every significant Buddhist activity, they always make pilgrimages to the temple. With an area of 490 square meters, the main hall is 23.5 meters long and 21 meters wide. A status of a Jixiangornis stands on the ridge, overlooking the whole buildings. There are 44 pillars in the hall. Red is the basic color of the pillars and gold powder is used to draw patterns on the pillars.
At the corridor of the back at the temple, you will find colorful painted murals which present the procedure of the original temple. The local Dai people show the respect to Shakyamuni Buddha in the murals as well. In addition, the murals also show the damage of the original temple in the 1960s. You may see Dai people holding ceremonies at the Dai Garden. And you could explore one or two Dai Ethnic Minority villages there to experience some of the local life.

How to get to the Manchunman Buddhist Temple
As Manchunman Buddhist Temple is located in Dai Garden, you’d need to get to the garden and then walk to the temple. You could rent a vehicle from Jinghong to the garden. The ride lasts for around 2 hours.
