Longji Rice Terraces In May – Visiting Longji Terraces In May + What to do!
What to expect at the Longji Rice Terraces In May?
The Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces, Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces and Jinkeng Rice Terraces make up the whole Longji Rice Terraces. Respectively, Longji Zhuang and Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces are home to Zhuang people for hundreds of years while Jinkeng Rice Terraces is the settlement for Red Yao people. All of the houses in the three areas are built in wood and bamboo. They all resemble houses with hanging feet.
Compared to the weather in April, it rains less in Longji Rice Terraces in May. There are a little more Chinese domestic tourists in May as well, especially in May Day Festival (usually from May 1 to May 4). It is cool neither cold nor hot in May in Longji.
In the early May (usually in May Day), Kaigeng Festival is always held at Longji Zhuang Village in the Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces. Villagers in Zhuang costumes celebrate it through a variety of activities, including playing the drum, doing dragon dance, and sacrificial activities.
In addition, villagers always demonstrate ploughing in the original way – one person pulls the rope tied to the tool and stand in front and the other person pushes the tool behind. If interested, you could join locals to experience climbing the rice terraces and catch chicken and ducks in the rice terraces.
Please note, if you’d like to visit Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces on May 1 when the festival is usually held, it is recommended that you stay overnight one night before in case the traffic is busy that day.
