The Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces, Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces and Jinkeng Rice Terraces make up the whole Longji Rice Terraces. Respectively, Longji Zhuang and Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces are home to Zhuang people for hundreds of years while Jinkeng Rice Terraces is the settlement for Red Yao people. In the very early June (usually between June 1 and June 6), Shuyang Festival (梳秧节) is always celebrated in Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces. On the early morning that day, villagers will walk behind the elder villagers to the rice terrace of seedling mother. They will worship for the seedling mother. Some other male villagers will play the drum and pray for blessing. After these activities, villagers will grow rice seedlings in the rice terraces. Locals will offer designated rice terraces to visitors to experience growing rice seedlings.
If you are interested to experience local traditional ways of growing rice, you could try it. It should be very interesting. In the evening, locals will hold a bonfire party in Ping’an Zhuang Village. In addition, fireworks in the sky could be stunning as well. During the period of time, there could be numerous tourists in Longji.
It is recommended that you get to the village very early on the morning of that day in case you are stuck in the traffic on the way to Longji. If you don’t like the crowd, it is suggested that you visit Ping’an Zhuang Village after the mid June, especially in the late June.
