What to expect at the Longji Rice Terraces In June?
The Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces, Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces and Jinkeng Rice Terraces make up the whole Longji Rice Terraces. Respectively, Longji Zhuang and Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces are home to Zhuang people for hundreds of years while Jinkeng Rice Terraces is the settlement for Red Yao people. It rains little in Longji Rice Terraces in June. It is a little hot in Longji in June while trees at the rice terraces and on the mountain are turning greener and greener. If you look around, you will find villages there are surrounded by green. Longji Rice Terraces is composed of Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces, Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces and Jinkeng Rice Terraces.

In the very early June (usually between June 1 and June 6), Shuyang Festival (梳秧节) is always celebrated in Ping’an Zhuang Rice Terraces. On the early morning that day, villagers will walk behind the elder villagers to the rice terrace of seedling mother. They will worship for the seedling mother. Some other male villagers will play the drum and pray for blessing. After these activities, villagers will grow rice seedlings in the rice terraces. Locals will offer designated rice terraces to visitors to experience growing rice seedlings.

If you are interested to experience local traditional ways of growing rice, you could try it. It should be very interesting. In the evening, locals will hold a bonfire party in Ping’an Zhuang Village. In addition, fireworks in the sky could be stunning as well. During the period of time, there could be numerous tourists in Longji.

It is recommended that you get to the village very early on the morning of that day in case you are stuck in the traffic on the way to Longji. If you don’t like the crowd, it is suggested that you visit Ping’an Zhuang Village after the mid June, especially in the late June.

Exploring the Longji Rice Terraces  
If you are more interested in more authentic traditions, you could discover the Longji Zhuang Rice Terraces in June. You could explore the old wooden houses there or just walk around the Longji Zhuang Village to refresh your body, mind and soul as the village is the least popular among visitors. You could see how locals cook the bamboo chicken and bamboo rice on the way. In the late June, rice seedlings become greener and higher, creating a more beautiful view than that in the early June.

Jinkeng Rice Terraces in June also offers great views to appreciate. You will see the sunrise rising from the mountain in the distance at the Viewpoint of Music from Paradise on the very early morning. The rice seedlings, clouds and trees around are covered with golden light during the sunrise. In the afternoon, you could hike up to the Viewpoint of Golden Buddha Peak to enjoy the sunset after exploring several ethnic minority villages in the area. ​Alternatively, you could take a cable car to the viewpoint by 17:00 pm (it is closed at 17:00 pm) from Dazhai Village Parking Lot. Many Chinese tourists love to take the cable car. It might queue for long if you’d like to take it by noon.
