What is the Longhorn Miao Village?
Nowadays, Longhorn Miao Village is composed of 12 small villages hidden in the mountainous area in Guizhou. As at 2017, the total number of Longhorn Miao people in the world is just 6,000. As the transportation to the village is underdeveloped, the traditional culture is well-preserved.

Longhorn Miao Village Fast Facts
Longhorn Miao Village is set on the Daqing Mountain with an elevation of 1,600 meters above sea level. The earth is barren while the climate is not comfortable. It is colder than the outside world.
The headwear of local Women is very special. A huge wooden long horn on the head is wrapped by black hair that weighs around 3 kilometers to make a huge headwear. The black hair is composed of black woolen yarns, and the hairs fallen by mother, grand-mothers, mother of the grand-mothers every day, which stands for the blessings from the old generations to the young. If you are lucky enough, you may encounter how they make the headwear during your visit to the village. The women costume is decorated with fine embroidery patterns. The pattern mostly reflects an abstract geometric weave effect. The composition is mostly a checkered pattern separated by strips, simple but without losing its exquisiteness. Longhorn women themselves need to make 2 sets of traditional costumes for themselves by hand. From the age of 12 or 13, they start to sew the wedding gown through their own hands. After the hard work of 6 to 7 years, the exquisite gown is created. Longga Village there is well-known for the outdoor ecological museum. The exhibits there tells the distinctive culture of the ethnic minority. You’ll find the traditional costumes, headwears, local articles of daily use, farming tools, items used in wedding, and funeral ceremonies and other significant festivals to the people. Pictures and documents at the museum demonstrate more interesting customs. In the village, you can find old traditional houses built with wood and with straw on the roof. On the other hand, the village is dotted with new buildings. Observe carefully and you’ll see the roof of every new house is fitted with two sculptures of white longhorns. |

How to get to Longhorn Miao Village
Unfortunately, there is no direct bus to the village from Guiyang or other cities in Guizhou. The only option is to rent a vehicle.
