Leifeng Pagoda ​- urban wetland located in Hangzhou

With a height of 71 x meters, Leifeng Pagoda stands by West Lake in Hangzhou. It was originally built in 977 to worship the hair of Buddha. The name is called after the mountain – Leifeng where the pagoda is situated on. The original pagoda collapsed in 1924. The existing one is the first colorful copper pagoda with exquisite carvings in China.

What to expect at Leifeng Pagoda

The existing Leifeng Pagoda features the same design, and size as the original one. It is composed of the base, the body and the spire.

 

On the ground floor are the ruins of the original pagoda. It is covered by glass. Materials including the old bricks introduce the original one. The lift in the middle can take you to the third floor. Then, you can walk to the top floor to enjoy the panoramic views of West Lake. If you visit the pagoda at sunset, you may be able to appreciate the amazing views.

The viewpoints from the first to the fourth floor also offer you many different angles to admire the views around. After enjoying the views at the top floor, you can explore exhibits on every floor. The exhibits are different. There are fine stone sculptures of Buddha, Buddhist texts, stunning wood carvings, etc.

 

You can enjoy the gorgeous views of the pagoda and the sunset in the distance from the outside.

Best time to visit the Leifeng Pagoda

If you’d like to visit the pagoda for photography purposes, the best time to visit is at sunset.

 

The best months to visit are from April to October.

 

How to get to the Leifeng Pagoda

Several buses pass by the pagoda. Thus, there are several options.

  • Rent a vehicle to the pagoda. This is the quickest and most direct option.
  • Take Bus 4, 31, 52, 52H, 315, or Bus WE1314 to the Stop of Jingsi (净寺).

  • Opening hours: 08:00 – 19:00 (March 16 – October 31) and 08:00 – 17:30 (November 1 – March 15)
  • As at 9th October 2020, the entrance pricing to the pagoda is 40 CNY per person; children between 1.2m tall (1.2m tall not included) and 1.4m tall (1.4m tall not included) are charged 20 CNY per person; the elder above 70 years old are charged 20 CNY per person; children under 1.2m tall (1.2m tall included) is free of charge.   • The pagoda is very popular among domestic Chinese tourists. Therefore, it is not suggested that you visit it during the public holiday.
