What is Laoxiaoding?

Laoxiaoding is located on the Gaobiao Mountain behind Leshan No.2 Middle School in downtown Leshan. At Laoxiaoding, you can enjoy the panoramic views of Leshan, explore old buildings, such as Wanjinglou, Wanshou Temple and other pavilions and walk through the old trees.

What to expect at Laoxiaoding

Situated around 15 minutes drive from Leshan Big Buddha, Laoxiaoding is located some 4.5 kilometers northwest of the Buddha. The buildings on Laoxiaoding were originally built in the 6th Century. The existing buildings there are Wanjingluo, Linguan Hall, Wanshou Taoist Temple and other old buildings. With glazed tiles on the roof, Wanjingluo was rebuilt between 1796 and 1820. It covers an area of 144 square meters. Lingguan Hall is located 20 meters southwest of Wanjingluo. It stands on the battlement of the old city wall. The hall is 8.8 meters wide, 6.5 meters deep and 7.4 meters tall.
On sunny days, you can see Leshan Big Buddha at Laoxiaoding. In addition, you can explore the old ginkgo trees there. Nowadays, locals, especially the elders, love to relax themselves at Laoxiaoding. They always play Mahjong, do Tai Chi, sing and dance or other activities there.
Best time to visit the Laoxiaoding

If you are interested to explore the local life at Laoxiaoding, the best time to visit is in the morning.

The best months to visit are from March to May and from September to October.

 

How to get to Laoxiaoding

Laoxiaoding is located in downtown Leshan. Therefore, there are a few options.

  • Rent a vehicle to Laoxiaoding from Chengdu or other places in Leshan. This is the quickest and most direct option.
  • Take Bus 1, Bus 18, and Bus 2 in Leshan to the Stop of Moruo Guangchang (沫若广场). Then, walk there.
