Located near Confucius Temple, Laomen East Pedestrian Street is becoming more and more popular among tourists but it is not so crowded as Fuzimiao Street. What to expect at the Laomen East Pedestrian Street

On Laomen East Pedestrian Street, you’ll be attracted by the traditional buildings. On the wall is the patterns made of porcelain pieces which reflect the old life style in Nanjing. All the buildings feature exquisite carvings on doors and windows. It is much quieter than Fuzimiao Street. Four groups of sculptures demonstrate the people’s life in the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912) in Nanjing.
Laomen East Pedestrian Street is a paradise for foodies. You can find many of local specialties there, such as Jiming Soup Steamed Buns, Guotie Stuffed with Beef, crispy sesame cakes, bean jelly, sugar porridge, etc.

You’ll find cafes, restaurants, and interesting handicrafts boutiques there. Exquisite paper cutting, handmade kites, bamboo carving, cloth painting, and marionette are also parts of the traditional culture in Nanjing. If you are interested, you can enjoy a comic dialogue in Deyuanshe Theater on the street. It is suggested that you book the ticket ahead of time as it is very popular among the Chinese people.
In the day, many Chinese girls in Han Chinese Clothing love to take photos on the street as well. Walk in the long and narrow alleys, and you may feel you were back to time. At night, the traditional buildings are covered with colorful lights, creating a feast for eyes. There are several bars on the street to visitors. During the traditional Chinese festivals, folk shows are regularly performed there.

The best months to visit are from April to October.

 

How to get to the Laomen East Pedestrian Street

  • A few buses pass by the street. Thus, there are a few options.
  • Rent a vehicle to the street. This is the quickest and most direct option.
  • Take Bus 23, 33, 43, 63, 81 or Bus 301 to the Stop of Pipaxiang (琵琶巷站). Then walk to the street.​
