Lanzhou Zhongshan Bridge ​- the oldest bridge in Lanzhou

Located below the Baita Mountain in the middle section of Binhe Road, Lanzhou Zhongshan Bridge was built in 1907. The bridge is 234 meters long and 7.5 meters wide with 6 piers and 5 steel arches. The project was built by German businessmen. It cost a total of more than 11,291.4 kilograms of silver. Its former name was Zhenyuan Bridge. In 1942, it was named Zhongshan Bridge in honor of Sun Yat-sen and hasn’t been changed any more.

Having suffered several times of natural disasters and wars, Lanzhou Zhongshan Bridge still spans the Huang River firmly. For Lanzhou and Lanzhou people, Zhongshan Bridge represents too much. For Lanzhou, it connects the two sides of the Huang River. It also opens the business road to Xinjiang, Qinghai, Ningxia and Inner Mongolia, making Lanzhou specialties appeared other cities around the country; it brings the rich products from all over the country to Lanzhou. During anti-Japanese War, it helped the Chinese people spend the hard days.

 

The night view of Zhongshan Bridge is amazing. With the lights on the arches and the reflection of the bridge in the water, the bridge offers an ideal background for photographing. From March, 30, 2013, the vehicles are not allowed to cross the bridge in order to protect the national key cultural relics.

There are several buses passing by the bridge. Therefore, there are several options.

  • Rent a vehicle to the museum. This is the quickest and most direct option.
  • Take Bus 4, 6, 9, 15, 25, 74, 105, 109, 137, 139 and Bus 142 to the bridge
