What is Kuanzhai Ancient Street?
Located near the Changshun Street(长顺街), Qingyang District(青羊区), the Kuanzhai Ancient Street (宽窄巷子) throughout over 300 years is the last iconic cultural landscape in Chengdu. It has been witnessing the history and development of Chengdu for hundreds of years.

What to expect at Kuanzhai Ancient Street

Situated in Qingyang District, Kuanzhai Ancient Street is composed of the Kuan Alley(宽巷子), the Zhai Alley(窄巷子) and the Jing Alley(井巷子) which are parallel to one another. With a nostalgic atmosphere, Kuan Alley offers more than 20 unique well-preserved old courtyards in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912). Visitors can experience the authentic Chengdu life at the Kuan Alley. If you enjoy Western food, you can explore the Zhai Alley where most of the buildings presenting some Western style were built during the end Qing Dynasty. You also can discover the one-of-a-kind cultural wall museum at the Jing Alley. The wall is around 400 meters long, with he reliefs demonstrating the local customs and the history of Chengdu.
If you are interested to experience Chengdu life in depth, it is suggested that you have a cup of tea in one of the tea houses and appreciate Sichuan Opera face changing in one of the 5 theaters in the street. Please figure out the pricing for the tea before entering the tea house. Generally speaking, the pricing for the tea is between 20 and 40 CNY per cup. Alternatively, you also can refresh yourself at Starbucks or a cafe. As for Sichuan Opera face changing, the pricing starts from 38 CNY per person with the tea excluded. In some theaters, the tea is mandatory consumed. Therefore, please consult the staff about it before entering the theater. |

Best time to visit Kuanzhai Ancient Street
The best time to visit Kuanzhai Ancient Street is between 08:00 and 10:00am. There are few visitors by 10:00am. The best months to visit is from March to May and from September to November as these months are not so cold or so hot.
How to get to Kuanzhai Ancient Street
The Kuanzhai Ancient Street is situated in downtown Chengdu. Therefore, there are several options.
- Rent a vehicle to the street. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 5, Bus 13, Bus 43, Bus 47, Bus 58, Bus 64, Bus 78, Bus 81 and Bus 163 to the Stop of “Jinhe Road”(金河路站) or Bus 62, Bus 70, Bus 93, Bus 163, and Bus 340 to the Stop of Upper Changshun Street(长顺上街站). And then walk to the street.
- Take Metro Line 4 to the Stop of Kuanzhai Xiangzi(宽窄巷子站). And then walk to the street.
