What to expect at Jiangtou Jiuwu
Jiangtou Village Jiuwu Town features 71 x old houses. Facing the east, these buildings make for a maze. They are built in black bricks and tiles. The roof of some of the old buildings is decorated with sculptures of birds and flowers. Tens of horizontal inscribed boards given by emperors in ancient China are well preserved in the village. Old stone alleys wind around the village.
The most popular and outstanding one is Ailian Jiaci Ancestral Temple in honor of Zhou Dunyi (1017 – 1073), a philosopher in the Northern Song Dynasty (960 – 1127) there. Originally built in 1882 and complemented in 1888, the temple has four courtyards for now. It features the exquisite carvings.
In addition, you can find the distinctive “Girl Building”, “Xiucai Street”, and “Yuren Alley”. court historian residence, residence of magistrate of a prefecture, residence for five magistrates of a county, Xieyuan residence, etc. If you have enough time, it is also worth visiting the old bridges, wells and temples there.
Regularly held on the 14th of May in the lunar calendar, Girl Festival in the village attracts many tourists to enjoy. Local traditional dancing and singing shows are held. You can also appreciate the stunning lotus that day.
