What to expect at the Japanese Covered Bridge Pagoda
Japanese Covered Bridge Pagoda is guarded by two stone dogs at the western end and two stone monkeys at the eastern end. The bridge surface is made of wood. It was built by the Japanese merchants in the late 16th Century. The bridge connected the Japanese quarter at the eastern end and the Chinese quarter at the western end before the mid-17th Century.
By the mid-17th Century, the Japanese was responsible for the maintenance of the bridge. After they left Vietnam in the mid-17th Century, the Chinese people took responsibility of the bridge’s maintenance. From 1653 to 1915, the bridge was renovated for several times. As a result, the bridge mainly has a Chinese style. However, the roof features the Japanese style. You’ll find some pictures in the hall on the bridge to tell some significant facts of the bridge.
