Working as the capital of Vietnam for more than 300 years, Hue features well-preserved old buildings to explore. Covering an area of 150 square kilometers, it is divided into the old town and the new area by a river. Hue is situated around 8 kilometers from the sea.

What to expect at Hue

Hue is well-known for its places of interests. It functioned as the capital of Vietnam until 1945 when the the August Revolution ended more than 80 years of colonial rule of France in Vietnam. Therefore, visitors can find many old buildings in Hue.

The Imperial Citadel could be acclaimed to be the most popular scenic spot there. Declared as a WTO World Cultural Heritage Site, it has an area of some 8 square kilometers. The gate is similar to Wu Gate of the Forbidden City in Beijing. It offers 24 batteries. It is worth visiting Neo Mon, Thai Hoa Palace, Truong Sanh Residence, Forbidden Purple City and Hue Jungle Crevice in the city.

Tombs of the Emperors is also a must-visit. It is composed of six tombs – Tombs of Gia Long, Tomb of Minh Mang, Tomb of Thieu Tri, Tomb of Tu Duc, Tomb of Dong Khanh and Tomb of Khai Dinh. All of them presents different designs from one another. You can find stone horses, elephants and other animals there. A variety of wooden buildings reflect the Indo-China Peninsula Culture in the 17th Century.

Thien Mu Pagoda is also an ancient palace building. It has more than 10 splendid buildings. In a word, Hue dotted with old buildings is a paradise for history and culture lovers.
