Set up in 1989, Hoi An Museum of History and Culture is situated in the old Quan Am pagoda which is originally built in 1653. Exhibits in the museum tell Hoi An’s long history which could date back to around 2,000 years ago.

What to expect at the Hoi’an Museum of History and Culture
More than 400 pieces of items at Hoi An Museum of History and Culture present the development of Hoi An from the Sa Huynh Period (the 2nd Century) to the Champa Kingdoms (from the 2nd to 15th Centuries) and the Dai Viet Period, and Dai Nam Period (from the 15th to the 19th Centuries) in Hoi An.
The exhibits there include old pictures, maps, sculptures and ceramics, article of daily use, musical instruments, demonstration of the costumes of the Vietnamese ethnic minorities, etc. In addition, you’ll find local handicrafts typical of local culture there as well. Some of the exhibits showcase that Chinese and Japanese people have deep ties with the development of Hoi An.
Hoi An Museum of History and Culture is a 4-storey structure, offering a cafe on the 3rd floor. You can enjoy the panoramic views of Hoi An Old Town there. The ground floor is decorated with photography works reflecting the local life.
