Originally built in 1886 and officially opened in 1892, the yellow Ho Chi Minh City Post Office was designed by the well-known French architect, Gustave Eiffel. It stands close to Notre Dame Cathedral. It is the first post office of Vietnam during the French Colonial Period.

What to expect at the Ho Chi Minh City Post Office

As the largest post office in Vietnam and one of the landmarks in Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City Post Office features a typical European Style. The facade of the building is decorated with fine reliefs. The construction time from 1886 to 1891 is painted under the clock. The interior is decorated exquisitely. The arch-shaped ceiling gives a feeling as if you walked in a tunnel. The round windows with beautiful patterns add more charm to the building. The flower-shaped wall lamps are attractive as well.
You’ll see a large outstanding picture of Ho Chi Minh on the wall as soon as you enter the post office. On both sides of the wall are the old maps of Vietnam below which are the distinctive telephone booths. Locals are used to making long distance calls at the booth. The hall offers the souvenir shop, ATMs, currency exchange office and an information center. Many of tourists to Ho Chi Minh City like to select post cards in the office and send them back home. If you feel a little tired, the circular bench in the hall offers you a place to take a rest.
