Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, is located at the southern end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. With a long history of more than 2,200 years, it was the old capital of the State of Wuyue (907 – 978) and the Southern Song Dynasty (1127 – 1279).

What to expect at Hangzhou

Hangzhou is well-known for West Lake. Around the lake, you can explore the old Leifeng Pagoda, the Broken Bridge, Su Causeway, etc. The lake is endowed with breathtaking views on any weather conditions. It is a combination of natural beauty and places of interest.

 

Xixi National Wetland Park is a great spot for bird watching lovers. It is home to more than 50 species of resident birds. In winter, the number of birds is the largest than any other time around the year. In addition, the natural views and architectures are also a feast for eyes.

If you are a hiking and nature lover, it is suggested that you explore Tianmu Mountain with different stunning views in the four seasons. The views there are the most appealing between late October and early December. It is a paradise for photographers as well.

If you don’t have enough time to visit Tianmu Mountain, Taiziwan Park is another option near West Street. Between late October and late November, golden and red maples make for gorgeous pictures. Tulip show in March and April also attracts many tourists every year.

China National Silk Museum is very popular among designers and silk lovers. As the largest silk museum in the world, it tells the history and culture of silk in China. Visitors can enjoy a variety of silk products as well as temporary modern silk shows there.

Hangzhou has many natural and historical and cultural spots to enjoy, such as Qiandao Lake, City God Pavilion, Southern Dynasty Town, Yuefei Temple, Jingci Temple and the like.

The best months to visit Hangzhou are from April to October.

How to get to Hangzhou

There are several airplanes to Hangzhou from the main cities around China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Nanjing, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Guilin, Xiamen, Kunming, Harbin, Xi’an, etc. There are many trains to Hangzhou from Chengdu, Chongqing, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Guiyang, Nanjing, Guilin, Xiamen, etc. Please get to Hangzhou by air or by train based on your schedule.
