If you are planning to visit Guilin between March and April, it is suggested that you bring an outdoor jacket; for May and June, you could bring cool clothing, an umbrella and waterproof clothing; shorts, sunglasses and the sunscreen cream are for July and August in Guilin; From September to November, you could bring long trousers, coats and long shirts; from December to February, it is recommended that you bring cotton-padded clothes and boots.

The local currency in China is the Chinese Renminbi (CNY). Visa and Mastercard debit cards can work well on most of ATMs in Guilin. You could get the best rate through this method. Please let your banks know that you will use your card in China ahead of time in case that you can’t withdraw money on ATM during your stay in China. It is recommended that you exchange some CNY cash at the airport exchange office. Even if the rate may be a little higher, it could save you from trouble if you would like to take a taxi from the airport to your hotel.

The international driving licenses are unacceptable in China. Even though you bring your driving license with you in Guilin, you are not allowed to drive a car. However, if you hold the Chinese residence permit over 6 months, you could go to the local vehicle administration office to take an English driving exam with your international driving license. Please be sure to translate your license into Chinese version ahead of time and remember to take the Chinese Version together with your license to the local vehicle administration office. Once passing the exam, you will be offered a Chinese driving license. The license is valid for 10 years.

The best months to visit Guilin are between the middle of April and the early November. Labour Day-May 1st and the National Day of China-October 1st, are the two golden weeks and the busiest weeks for tourism. The weather and climate is comfortable during the two weeks. Therefore, thousands of tourists always visit Guilin. As a result, the hotel’s booking and the traffic is the busiest. The room rates rise between the two periods as well. It is suggested that you should not pay a visit to Guilin during the two weeks. You could visit Guilin during the off-season to enjoy its beauty.
