Green Lake Park in Kunming is situated at the foot of Luofeng Mountain, opposite Yunnan University. It is one of the most beautiful parks in Kunming. From the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644) on, the administrative officials of Yunnan built buildings at the park. The park is a combination of old buildings in the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912) style, local life, natural beauty and wild birds, such as seagulls which fly to the park in winter from Siberia.

The Goldfish Islet at Green Lake Park in Kunming is home to cedars, camphor and other species of trees. It is dotted with colorful flowers. Birds always enjoy singing there. The islet is fit for you to wander and try Yunnan tea.
At Bamboo Forest Islet, you will find local elders enjoying themselves through square dancing, playing instruments, acting, singing, playing chess and local cards in the morning or in the afternoon. Many locals also enjoy riding and running around the Green Lake in the morning or in the afternoon. Some elders always walk their dogs at the park. If interested, you can enjoy boating at the lake as well.
If interested, you could explore the old buildings, such as Lotus Buddha Hall and Haixin Pavilion with overhanging eaves and golden tiles. At Zhichun Pavilion, locals always sing Yunnan folk songs during festivals. From May to June, lotus is in blossom which is ideal for photographing. From November to March, seagulls always gather at the park. During the period of time, you could play with them.
If you would like to experience the local life, it is recommended that you visit the park in the morning as it is the most crowed at that time.
If you are planning to visit the park for photography purposes, the best months to visit are from May to June and from November to March.
Several buses pass by the park. Therefore, there are several options.
- Rent a vehicle to the park. This is the quickest and most direct option.
- Take Bus 100, 101, 133 and Bus 139 to the Stop of Cuihu Bei (翠湖北站).
- Take Bus 235 and Bus Z5 to the Stop of East Gate of Cuihu (翠湖东门站).
- Take Bus 2, 5, 10, 26, 52, 54, 56, 61, 66, 69, 82, 84, 98, 102 and Bus 103 to the Stop of Xiaoximen (小西门站).
- Opening hours: 07: 00 – 23:00
- As at 18th October 2020, the entrance pricing to the park is free of charge.
