What to expect at Fubo Hill
An old iron bell cast in 1669 is well preserved at the pavilion next to Pearl-Returning Cave (还珠洞). With a diameter of 1.7 meters, it is 2.5 meters tall and weighs 2,524 kilograms. Look right, and you will find an old iron pot named “Thousand-person Pot” cast in 1663 in Foshan, Guangdong in another pavilion. With a diameter of 1.6 meters, the pot is some 0.67 meter deep.
Sword-Testing Rock stands between the two pavilions. A legend tells that the General Fubo, Ma Yuan negotiated with the intruders in the Pearl-Returning Cave. They promised to retreat based upon the distance of the flying sword created by Ma Yuan. To their surprise, Ma Yuan sent the sword through 3 hills.
At Thousand-Buddha Cave, you will be amazed at hundreds of statues of Buddha carved on the cliff. Most of the statues were exquisitely carved in the late Tang Dynasty (618 – 907). Also, you will see the stone carving of Mi Fu (1051 – 1107), a famous calligrapher and artist in the Northern Song Dynasty (960 – 1127).
Eight Osmanthus Trees Hall Complex is situated in the northwest of Fubo Hill Park. It was originally built in 1097. It was named after the matter that an official planted eight osmanthus trees in the complex.
From the foot to the top of Fubo Hill, it takes around 15 minutes to walk. Some of the stone steps are a little steep. On the top of the hill, you will admire the panoramic views of the City of Guilin. In the park, some local people always do square dancing.
