What is the Flying Tigers Museum?
Located around 13 kilometers from Guilin City, the Flying Tigers Museum is situated in the ruins of the old Yangtang Airport (秧塘机场). Numerous precious materials are on display in the museum, such as the related military uniforms, medals of Honor, old pictures and more. A C-47 aircraft donated by American Flying Tigers Historical Committee lies before the museum.

What to expect at Flying Tigers Museum
Flying Tigers Museum offers the Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hal, the Monument to the Heroes of the Anti-Japanese War, the Relief Wall of the Heroes of the Anti-Japanese War, the Scenery Sculpture of the Air Force, and the ruins of the barracks and a command post to explore.
Nearly 300 pieces of historical relics in the museum are donated by American Flying Tigers Historical Committee as well. The entire exhibition is composed of six parts, the prelude hall, Sky of the History, Tigers Roaring in the sky, the Flying Tigers in Guilin, Eternal Designation, and the last hall. |
The reliefs and sculptures at the prelude hall present some parts of the historical facts of the Flying Tigers. You will find several related books on the Flying Tigers, such as the Memory of History, and Strangers in their land and the like. Araflex and a film camera used by the Flying Tigers, an old short sword used by the Nationalist Party, and other precious materials tell us the history of the Flying Tigers in Guilin.
In addition, the museum introduces the life of General Chennault and the love between him and his wife, Anna Chennault (Chen Xiangmei) through pictures and words. Materials also introduce the contributions of the main officers of Guilin and Guangxi at that time, including Li Zongren and Bai Chongxi to the Anti-Japanese War.
Outside the museum, you could explore the site of Flying Tigers Command Post in the cave which is situated on the hillside on the left of the entrance to the museum and the rock on which General Chennault stood to watch the air combat.

How to get to the Flying Tigers Museum
You could take Bus 61 and Bus 85 to the Stop of Feihu Linju (飞虎林居站) and then walk to the museum. Or you could rent a vehicle to the museum directly from Guilin.
